As excitement builds for the upcoming Tata Safari facelift, car enthusiasts and loyalists of Tata are eagerly awaiting a glimpse of the much-anticipated changes to this beloved SUV. Finally, their patience has been rewarded with spy images showcasing the fully uncovered interior of the updated Safari for the very first time. The images unveil a complete design overhaul, elevating the SUV’s cabin to a notably more premium and tech-packed level.
Drawing inspiration from its futuristic Curvv and Sierra EV interior concepts, Tata Motors has seamlessly incorporated several design elements from these prototypes into the production model of the Safari facelift. One of the prominent features is the four-spoke, flat-bottom steering wheel, bearing a striking resemblance to the one featured in the Sierra EV concept displayed at Auto Expo 2023.
Highlighted with toggle switches and haptic buttons at each end, the steering wheel’s center portion boasts a glossy black finish, and rumors suggest it may even include an illuminated Tata logo.
Futuristic HVAC Controls and Infotainment
The gloss black panel for the HVAC controls immediately catches the eye. It houses two bands of haptic buttons and toggle switches identical to the ones previewed with the Curvv and Sierra EV concepts. The infotainment system on the Safari facelift also appears to be all-new, characterized by sharp edges, a departure from the rounded edges seen on the current 10.25-inch screens of the Safari Red Dark Editions. Alongside this change, Tata is expected to provide an updated software interface to enhance the overall user experience.
Luxury and Elegance in the Cabin
Tata has taken the luxury quotient up a notch by introducing leatherette padding with contrast double-stitching for the lower portion of the dashboard. In contrast to the faux wood-like trim of the current model, the upper dashboard receives a full-width, colored, gloss insert, adding a touch of elegance to the cabin. The central AC vents continue with a trapezoidal shape, now inverted and sleeker, further accentuating the modern design language of the updated Safari.
Enhanced Digital Instrument Cluster and Upscale Console
Another significant upgrade comes in the form of a full-digital instrument cluster, replacing the semi-digital unit seen in the current model. This digital cluster is expected to offer drivers an enhanced view of vital information and vehicle statistics. Tata has meticulously revised the center console area, where the gear lever has been made smaller and stubbier, lending a more sophisticated appearance. The rotary dial, larger and resembling the knurled unit of the Nexon EV Max, adds to the SUV’s upscale aura. Thankfully, Tata has retained physical controls for key functions like temperature and blower settings, volume controls, and drive modes, ensuring ease of use and convenience for the driver.
Interior Design Leading the Way
Interestingly, the revamped interior of the Tata Safari facelift is expected to set a precedent for other models in the Tata lineup. Reports suggest that the interior design will likely be mirrored in the Harrier facelift, while elements of this updated cabin might also be shared with the Nexon facelift.
Launch and Powertrain Updates
As the Indian festive season approaches, Tata Motors is gearing up for a slew of SUV launches. The highly anticipated Safari facelift, along with the updated Harrier, is expected to hit the market around September 2023. However, given the substantial improvements in quality and equipment, it is reasonable to anticipate a significant step-up in pricing as well. The car will be receiving a ton of exterior design updates as well.
Meanwhile, on the drivetrain side of things, it has been reported that Tata will retain the currently-available 2.0-liter four-cylinder 170 PS diesel engine with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions for the all-new Safari. Additionally, there is a strong possibility that the new Tata Safari will also feature the newly-developed 1.5-liter four-cylinder 170 PS turbocharged petrol engine. It is expected that the new Tata Safari will come equipped with both a 6-speed manual and a dual-clutch automatic transmission.
