Jaguar Type 01 electric GT with a solid rear panel and no rear window

The Jaguar Type 01 is the production electric GT that Jaguar revealed in New York on 6 October 2026, and its headline numbers are real: three motors, 1,030 PS and a 0-100 km/h time of 3.2 seconds, in a car with no rear window. Our Short got most of that right, but it blurred two things that matter to Indian buyers. The “mid-2027” date is for global deliveries, not a “global debut”, and the India price of about ₹2 crore is an estimate, not an announcement. Here is what is confirmed about the Jaguar Type 01, what is only reported, and what it could mean for India.

Jaguar Type 01 at a glance

  • What it is: a four-door electric GT, the production version of the Type 00 concept shown in December 2024. It is the first production Jaguar on the new Jaguar Electric Architecture, built in Solihull in the UK.
  • Power: three motors (one at the front, two at the rear), all-wheel drive, 1,030 PS (about 1,016 hp) and 1,365 Nm.
  • Performance: 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, according to Autocar India.
  • Battery and range: 120 kWh total, 118 kWh usable, with up to 720 km claimed on the WLTP cycle.
  • India: expected in 2027, no official price.

The no-rear-window design

The most talked-about detail is the back of the car. There is no rear windscreen. A solid body panel replaces it, and a camera feeds a digital rear-view mirror inside, as reported by Autocar India and CarDekho. The car is about 5,235 mm long, 2.0 m wide, 1,400 mm tall, with a 3,200 mm wheelbase, 23-inch wheels and a drag coefficient of 0.23. Boot space is listed at 450 litres. If you do not like camera mirrors, this is the car’s biggest compromise, so try one before you order.

Power, battery and charging

The three-motor layout produces 1,030 PS, which is the correct unit: the Short said “hp”, but 1,030 PS converts to about 1,016 hp. Torque is 1,365 Nm. The 120 kWh battery (118 kWh usable) uses NMC chemistry and runs at 850 volts. Peak DC charging is 350 kW, and Autocar India reports about 321 km of range added in 13 minutes and a 10-80% charge in about 22 minutes. Those are Jaguar’s claims, and charging speed in India will depend on finding a charger that can deliver that power.

Weight is where physics shows up. Autocar India puts the car at about 2.7 tonnes, which is heavy even for an electric GT, and only that outlet gave the figure, so treat it as reported.

Is 720 km realistic?

The up-to-720 km figure is a WLTP claim, which is a lab test. Electrive notes that official WLTP numbers were not yet available at the time of its report, so the figure is Jaguar’s own claim. Just Auto also quotes about 400 miles (roughly 644 km) on the American EPA cycle, which is usually a more conservative method. On Indian highways at 100 to 120 km/h with air conditioning on, real-world range will be lower than either, so plan on a meaningful gap.

Jaguar Type 01 price and timing

What is reported Status
UK price Around £120,000 to £130,000, depending on the outlet Reported, sources differ
Germany €165,000 Reported by Electrive
Orders open Early 2027 Reported
Deliveries start Second half of 2027 (Autocar India says by mid-2027) Reported
India launch Expected around March 2027, per CarDekho Not officially dated
India price Estimates run from ₹1.5 crore to about ₹3 crore No official price

CarDekho quotes Jaguar as saying that a few units will come to India, without a number, and CarDekho’s own estimate is ₹1.5 to ₹2 crore. Autocar India says about ₹2 crore “give or take”, while another listing on its site shows ₹2.8 to ₹3 crore. These do not agree, and Jaguar has announced no Indian price, so use ₹2 crore only as a rough planning number. Luxury EVs in India also carry import duty and local taxes that can move the final figure a long way from a converted UK price.

Who the rivals are in India

CarDekho names the Porsche Taycan as the direct rival in India, with the Mercedes-AMG GT four-door EV and the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore as other cars in the class, though the Maserati is not sold in India yet. If you are choosing between them, the practical questions are service coverage, charger access and how much you value a design that looks nothing like a Taycan. A car with a ₹2 crore sticker price should be judged on ownership, not just a 3.2 second sprint.

A note on our Short

Our Short said Jaguar revealed the production Type 01, with no rear window, 1,030 hp, 1,365 Nm and a 3.2 second 0-100 time. The reveal, the missing window, the torque and the 0-100 time are all correct. The power figure is 1,030 PS rather than hp. The Short also said the car would reach India “a few months after its mid-2027 global debut”. The reveal happened in October 2026, and mid-2027 is when global deliveries are expected, so “global debut” is the wrong label. The “about ₹2 crore” number is an estimate from one outlet, not a Jaguar price, and the 720 km should be read as a claimed WLTP figure.

Should you wait for the Jaguar Type 01?

Wait for it if you want a design-led electric GT, you can pay around ₹2 crore or more, and you are happy to wait into 2027 for the Indian price. Joining Jaguar’s interest list costs nothing, but we could not confirm any booking process for India.

Look at other cars if you need a car now, or want certainty on price and service. We have not driven the Type 01. This page is based on published reports and we will update it when Jaguar announces India details. Jaguar Type 01 FAQs

How much power does the Jaguar Type 01 make?

What is the Jaguar Type 01’s range?

Up to 720 km on the WLTP cycle, claimed by Jaguar. A US EPA figure of about 400 miles (roughly 644 km) has also been reported. Real-world range will be lower.

No. A solid panel replaces it, and a camera feeds a digital rear-view mirror.

Not officially dated. CarDekho expects around March 2027, with global deliveries reported for mid or late 2027.

What is the Jaguar Type 01 price in India?

There is no official Indian price. Estimates range from about ₹1.5 crore to ₹3 crore. The UK price is reported at roughly £120,000 to £130,000.
