The Nissan 7-seater SUV is a camouflaged three-row test mule that was photographed on Indian roads in early October 2026, and it is reported to be based on the same platform as the new Nissan Tekton. Nissan has promised a seven-seater for 2027 but has shown nothing officially: no name, no interior, no engine confirmation and no price. Our Short said the car was “officially hitting the roads” and compared it to the Tata Safari. Here is what the spy report actually shows about the Nissan 7-seater SUV, what is only expected, and which numbers are still estimates.

Nissan 7-seater SUV at a glance
- What was seen: a heavily camouflaged test mule, “significantly longer” than the Tekton, per Autocar India.
- Platform: CMF-B, shared with the five-seat Tekton.
- Launch: 2027, which Nissan has said. No exact date.
- Engine: the Tekton’s 1.3-litre turbo-petrol is expected, not confirmed.
- Price: Autocar India estimates ₹18 lakh to ₹22 lakh ex-showroom. Nissan has given no figure.
- Name: not announced.
What the spy pictures show
According to Autocar India’s report of 6 October, the front keeps the Tekton’s inverted-L LED daytime-running lights and headlamps, and a revised grille and bumper are expected. The big changes are at the back: a longer rear quarter, larger rear quarter glass, boomerang-shaped tail-lights that extend downward, a thicker LED light bar and a flatter rear windscreen. The interior and equipment are “not yet known”. A 5+2 seating layout is expected, but nobody has seen the seats.
MyCarJunction, which published pictures dated 5 October, adds that the test car wears 18-inch alloys with 225/60 R18 tyres, against 225/55 on the five-seater. It also reports a redesigned front bumper that appears to house two millimetre-wave radars, which would point to more advanced driver-assistance features. That is a sighting, not a confirmed specification.
Is it just a stretched Tekton?
Nissan India’s managing director Saurabh Vatsa said the seven-seater would be “completely different, not just an extension of the Tekton”, according to Autocar India. In May 2025 he described it as “a very different vehicle and engineered to be a proper 7-seater”. Those are Nissan’s words and not something the spy pictures prove. MyCarJunction reports a wheelbase of 2,657 mm, the same as the Tekton, with a longer rear overhang, while another outlet claims a longer wheelbase, so the wheelbase is unconfirmed.
Engine and gearbox: what to expect
Nothing is confirmed for the seven-seater. The five-seat Tekton launched on 9 July 2026 at ₹10.49 lakh, and Autocar India’s launch report lists a 1.0-litre turbo making about 100 hp and a 1.3-litre turbo making 163 hp and 280 Nm, with a six-speed manual or a six-speed wet DCT on the larger engine. Autocar India expects the seven-seater to use the 1.3-litre, most likely front-wheel drive, which fits what MyCarJunction says about all-wheel drive and a strong hybrid looking unlikely. Our Short said the car would skip the 1.0-litre and use the 1.3-litre “exclusively”. That is too strong, because it is an expectation and not a fact. Nissan’s MD also ruled out diesel in the short term.
Nissan 7-seater SUV price and rivals
| Detail | Status | |
|---|---|---|
| Launch | 2027 | Stated by Nissan; no exact date |
| Price | ₹18 lakh to ₹22 lakh ex-showroom | Autocar India’s estimate |
| Rivals named | Mahindra XUV 7XO, Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar | Autocar India’s expectation |
| Seating | 5+2 layout | Expected, not seen |
| Features | Not yet known | No list from Nissan |
The seven-seater would be Nissan’s second three-row SUV in India, after the X-Trail, which is sold as an imported unit. Nissan’s other India plans are the Gravite, a Triber-based small MPV, and the Tekton, which is already on sale. The Tekton and Gravite details are in Nissan’s own announcements, while the seven-seater remains a test mule.
A note on our Short
Our Short’s title said the Safari is “dead”, which is clickbait, and no source says anything about the Safari’s future. The Short also said the car was “officially hitting the roads”. It was caught testing in spy pictures, and Nissan has not officially shown it. The description said the car would be an “ultimate rival” to the Safari, Alcazar and XUV 7XO. Autocar India names those three as expected rivals, so that is a fair positioning but not a Nissan statement. The 2027 launch and the ₹18 lakh to ₹22 lakh price match the Autocar India report, and both are expectations. The claim that the cabin will be “loaded with features” is unsupported, since the equipment list is not known.
Should you wait for the Nissan 7-seater?
Wait if you are not buying before 2027, you want a seven-seater from a brand with a new turbo-petrol engine, and you can compare it with the Alcazar and the Safari once the price is known. A launch more than a year away, with no price and no feature list, is not a reason to delay buying a car you need now.
Buy now if you need a three-row SUV this year. We have not driven any of these vehicles, and this page is based on published spy-shot reports. We will update it when Nissan confirms details. For more, see spy shots, watch the Short in our Shorts feed, and read about upcoming cars.
