Tata Nexon compact SUV, with the next-generation Nexon reported for 2027

Should you buy the current Tata Nexon in 2026 or wait for the next-generation model? The honest answer is that nobody outside Tata knows the new car’s date, specs or price, because Tata has confirmed nothing. What is reported is a new Nexon in 2027, probably around the second quarter, built on a heavily modified version of the current platform. Meanwhile the current car carries October discounts of up to ₹75,000 on select petrol manuals, and those end on 31 October. This page is the written companion to our video, and it sets out what is confirmed, what is only reported and a simple rule for deciding on a Tata Nexon 2027 wait.

Watch the full video above for our take in Hinglish. The written version below checks each claim against published reports.

What the video covers

  • Current Nexon vs the new Nexon, and which one to choose.
  • The petrol, diesel, CNG and EV options available today, and the discounts on them.
  • Why the next Nexon is expected to be a bigger change than a normal facelift.
  • What to confirm before you decide: timeline, official specifications, pricing and powertrains.

Tata Nexon at a glance

  • Next-gen Nexon: not announced by Tata. Reported for 2027.
  • Current Nexon price: about ₹7.40 lakh to ₹14.40 lakh for petrol and diesel, and ₹8.99 lakh to ₹14.59 lakh for CNG, ex-showroom, per Autocar India’s page updated on 14 October 2026.
  • October discounts: up to ₹75,000 on select petrol manuals, up to ₹60,000 on CNG, up to ₹20,000 on diesel, valid 1 to 31 October.
  • Codename: Garud, reportedly.

What is reported about the Tata Nexon 2027

Everything here is reported, not confirmed. Business Today, citing an ETAuto report, says the new Nexon arrives in 2027, ahead of Tata’s premium Avinya EV series, and that reports suggest the April to June quarter. Tata has given no date. Earlier reporting from Autocar India says the project is called Garud and uses a heavily modified version of the existing X1 platform rather than an all-new one, with showroom arrival pencilled in for 2027. The current Nexon launched in September 2017, so it would be about ten years old by then.

Spy shots reported by Times Drive on 30 September show a redesigned front end and a more upright body, which that outlet reads as a generation change rather than a regular facelift. That is the reporter’s interpretation, not something Tata has said.

Tata Nexon 2027 powertrains: what could change

Petrol and CNG are expected to carry over, according to Autocar India’s earlier report. Diesel is uncertain because meeting stricter emission norms costs more, and other outlets have also suggested it may be dropped. A new-generation electric version is expected, but it is unclear whether it comes with the petrol cars or later. Times Drive lists unconfirmed power figures close to the current car: about 118 bhp for petrol, 99 bhp for turbo-CNG and 113 bhp for diesel. Treat all of those as unconfirmed.

What the current Nexon offers in October 2026

According to Autocar India’s October offers report, the petrol manual variants from Smart+ to Pure+ PS get up to ₹75,000, made up of ₹10,000 cash, ₹45,000 intervention and either a ₹15,000 exchange or ₹20,000 scrappage benefit. Other petrol variants get up to ₹55,000, and the Creative Camo petrol manual is excluded. The CNG car gets up to ₹60,000 and the diesel only up to ₹20,000. The offers vary by city and stock, and not every benefit can be combined, so ask for the variant-wise sheet.

Nexon version October 2026 benefit (up to)
Petrol manual, Smart+ to Pure+ PS ₹75,000
Other petrol variants ₹55,000
CNG ₹60,000
Diesel ₹20,000

Tata also announced a price rise of up to ₹25,000 across its range from 1 September 2026, and the Nexon-specific amount was not published, so check the current price sheet. Some outlets have also listed slightly different ex-showroom ranges, so confirm with a dealer.

Tata Nexon 2027: buy the current Nexon or wait?

A simple rule works better than a guess. If you need a car before about April to June 2027, buy now, because the new Nexon has no confirmed date and its price, features, diesel availability and EV timing are all unknown. In that case the October offers are real money, and they end on 31 October. If you can wait until the second half of 2027 or later, the next-generation car is worth waiting for, because it is expected to be a larger update. We would also expect a first-year premium on a new-generation car, but that is our reasoning, not a sourced claim. Do not assume a resale penalty either, because no source says so.

If you are comparing the Nexon with other compact SUVs this Diwali, our list of cars launching this week and our upcoming cars page show what else is about to change.

A note on our video and Short

Our video said you could consider buying the current Nexon with about ₹70,000 off. The reported headline is up to ₹75,000, and only on select petrol manuals, with the CNG at ₹60,000 and the diesel at ₹20,000, so ₹70,000 will not be right for every variant. We also said the new Nexon is expected to be a generational update, which is the reported view, not a Tata announcement. Our earlier Short said the 2027 test car had 18-inch Curvv-style alloys. The wheels look like the Curvv’s, but Times Drive says the pictures do not confirm the size, and the test car may not be wearing production wheels, so the 18-inch number is unconfirmed.

What to check before you decide

  • The final on-road price, with and without exchange.
  • Whether the discount applies to the variant and fuel type you want.
  • Stock and delivery time, since offers vary with stock.
  • Your own timeline: how soon you must replace your current car.

We have not driven the next-generation Nexon, and no one has, as it has not been shown. This page uses published reports, and we will update it when Tata announces anything. Watch the full video for the discussion in Hinglish, and see our videos page for more. For the spy-shot report, see Times Drive.
