Tata Punch micro-SUV next to the Tata Aeris compact sedan

The Tata Punch vs Aeris question comes up for anyone shopping around ₹6 to ₹10 lakh this Diwali, and the short answer is that they are different kinds of car. The Punch is a micro-SUV with 193 mm of ground clearance, a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating and a turbo option. The Aeris is a new sub-4-metre sedan, the replacement for the Tigor, with a bigger petrol boot and a lower starting price. This page is the written companion to our video. It lines up their prices, engines, sizes and trims side by side, and corrects one thing the video implied: the two cars do not share the same trim ladder.

Watch the full video above for our variant picks and “my Diwali pick” in Hinglish. The facts below are checked against published reports.

What the video covers

  • Tata Punch vs Tata Aeris in the ₹6 to ₹10 lakh budget, for petrol and for CNG.
  • The Punch Turbo and who it is for.
  • Village or bad roads, city driving, family luggage and elderly parents.
  • Features, sunroof variants and the best value-for-money variant.
  • Trim-by-trim matchups, from Smart vs Smart up to the top trims.
  • Our picks for each car and a simple rule for choosing.

Is the Tata Aeris a real car?

Yes. The Aeris is a compact sedan that Tata launched on 25 September 2026 as the replacement for the Tigor, at introductory prices from ₹5.29 lakh. According to Autocar India, it is a facelift of the outgoing Tigor with Tiago-style looks and the same mechanicals. Deliveries began on 11 October. It is sold to individual buyers only, and the Tigor continues for fleets under the name Xpres. The Punch facelift launched earlier, on 13 January 2026.

Tata Punch vs Aeris at a glance

Both use a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol for the normal versions, and both offer a manual or an AMT. The Aeris’s CNG version makes 75.5 PS and 96.5 Nm. The Punch’s CNG makes about 73.5 PS and 103 Nm. For fuel economy, Autocar India lists the Punch at 18.8 to 20.09 km/l on petrol and up to 26.99 km/kg on CNG. We could not find a confirmed ARAI figure for the Aeris, so we are not quoting one.

Tata Punch vs Aeris price: trim by trim, petrol manual

The video compares trims that share a name. Here are the launch prices for petrol manuals, ex-showroom Delhi, from the launch reports:

Matchup Aeris (₹ lakh) Punch (₹ lakh)
Smart 5.29 5.59
Pure 6.14 6.49
Pure+ 6.74 6.99
Aeris Creative vs Punch Adventure 7.49 7.59
Accomplished 8.19 8.29

The Aeris is cheaper at every step, but the gap is small, between ₹10,000 and ₹35,000. These are launch prices, and they have moved. Autocar India’s Punch page, updated on 13 October, shows a range of ₹5.75 lakh to ₹10.77 lakh, and CarDekho lists current Aeris prices about ₹10,000 above launch. Always compare current prices on the day you buy.

The trim ladders are not the same

This is the one correction to the video. Smart, Pure and Pure+ exist on both cars. Creative is an Aeris-only trim. Adventure, the turbo versions and Accomplished+ S are Punch-only, and the Punch’s old “Creative” trim was renamed Accomplished+ S in 2026. So “Aeris Creative vs Punch Adventure” is a price-matched comparison, not a like-for-like one. The Aeris top trim is Accomplished, which adds ventilated front seats, a wireless charger and a dashcam function, and its Creative trim has a 10.25-inch screen, a 360-degree camera and automatic climate control, per Autocar India’s variant guide.

Tata Punch vs Aeris: which is better for your roads and your family?

Bad roads and villages: the Punch has 193 mm of ground clearance against the Aeris’s 170 mm, so it is the safer pick for broken roads and speed breakers. That is an inference from the numbers, not something Tata claims.

City and luggage: the Aeris has a 419-litre petrol boot, against 366 litres on the Punch. The CNG boot figures are disputed across sources, so check the actual boot with the cylinder fitted before you buy. For elderly parents, sit in both and check how easy it is to get in and out, because we have not measured that.

Performance: only the Punch has a turbo, 120 PS and 170 Nm, on the Adventure and Accomplished+ S trims with a manual gearbox. If you want power, there is no equivalent Aeris.

Safety: the Punch has a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, while the Aeris has not been crash-tested yet. Both have six airbags. We could not confirm from a single reliable source whether the Aeris gets electronic stability control on every trim, so ask the dealer.

Our trim picks

  • Aeris: Pure+ on a budget, Creative for value, Accomplished for the premium feel.
  • Punch: Pure+ on a budget, Adventure for everyday value, Accomplished for premium, and the Adventure Turbo or Accomplished+ S Turbo for performance.
  • Rule of thumb: bad roads, choose the Punch; city and boot space, the Aeris; performance, the Punch Turbo.

These are our opinions, based on the specifications above. We have not driven the Aeris or run a back-to-back test.

What about Diwali offers?

We could not verify any Tata Diwali discounts on either car, and one outlet’s October page lists no Punch petrol or CNG benefits and does not mention the Aeris. The video mentions festive offers as a thing to check, which is right. Ask the dealer for the final on-road price, the exchange value and the stock position, since offers vary by city.

A note on our video

Our video treated the two cars as one trim ladder and compared Punch and Aeris variants by name. The names overlap only on Smart, Pure and Pure+, and the rest are different. It also said the Aeris has “aggressive features”, which is an opinion, and a “419-litre boot”, which is correct for the petrol and not confirmed for the CNG. The ₹6 to ₹10 lakh budget is a rough fit, since the Aeris starts near ₹5.29 lakh and the Punch’s top trims are above ₹10 lakh. Watch the full video for the reasoning behind our picks, and see our videos and car news for more. For launch prices, see CarDekho’s Punch price list.
