Black Tata Safari Dark Edition with ambient lighting glowing inside

The Tata Safari Dark Edition is a blacked-out version of the Safari, and our video showed an ambient lighting kit being added to one. Before you copy it, one thing is worth knowing: “Dark Edition” has been several different cars since 2022, and the 2026 Dark Edition launched three days after our video went up. So this page does two jobs. It explains what the current Tata Safari Dark Edition is and costs, and it covers the practical points to check before you fit any aftermarket ambient lighting, including wiring and warranty. We do not name the kit in the video, because its description does not.

Watch the full video above to see the unboxing and the finished cabin. The written version below adds the car facts and the warranty cautions.

What the video covers

  • An unboxing and first look at an ambient lighting kit for a Tata Safari Dark Edition.
  • Build quality, features and lighting modes.
  • The cabin before and after, and whether it is worth the price.

The video’s description does not give the kit’s brand, price, number of LEDs, control method, installation method or warranty, so we cannot tell you any of those from it. What you see is the channel owner’s own experience with his own car.

Tata Safari Dark Edition at a glance

  • 2026 Dark Edition: launched in July 2026, only on the top Accomplished Ultra trim.
  • Price: about ₹23.7 lakh to ₹26.3 lakh ex-showroom, per CarDekho’s table.
  • Engines: 1.5-litre turbo-petrol with 170 PS and 280 Nm, and a 2.0-litre diesel with 170 PS and 350 Nm.
  • Gearboxes: six-speed manual or six-speed automatic.
  • Look: glossy-black paint, an all-black interior and 19-inch wheels.

Which “Dark Edition” is it?

This matters, because the Safari has had several Dark versions. The first came in January 2022 on the XT+ and XZ+ trims. A Red Dark edition followed in 2023 with red accents, and the Accomplished+ Dark launched in October 2023. The current one, according to CarDekho’s report of 14 July 2026, is a new Dark Edition on the Accomplished Ultra trim. Our video went live on 11 July 2026, before that launch, so the car in it is an earlier Dark edition. Do not read the 2026 specification sheet onto the car in the video.

The current Safari Dark Edition: price and features

CarDekho’s table lists the Accomplished Ultra Dark at about ₹23.67 lakh for the petrol manual and ₹25.08 lakh for the petrol automatic, with the diesel at about ₹24.85 lakh for the manual and ₹26.30 lakh for the automatic. The report’s headline range quotes slightly different figures, so check the exact price on Tata’s site before you book. A six-seater captain-seat layout costs a further ₹9,000 to ₹10,000.

The features listed include factory ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charger, a 14.5-inch QLED touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats with driver memory, a 10-speaker JBL system with Dolby Atmos, ventilated captain seats, a powered tailgate and a 360-degree camera. Safety includes seven airbags, Level-2 ADAS, TPMS and ESP. Equipment is carried over from the Accomplished Ultra trim, and the new bits are the black paint, the black interior and the wheels.

Does every Dark Edition have factory ambient lighting?

Edition Factory ambient lighting
January 2022 Dark (XT+, XZ+) Not mentioned in the launch report we found
2023 Red Dark Yes, red lighting at the door handles and around the sunroof
October 2023 Accomplished+ Dark Yes, described as configurable
2026 Accomplished Ultra Dark Yes

The point is that “Safari Dark” does not automatically mean factory ambient lighting. We do not know which edition the video’s car is, or whether it had factory lighting, so we are not guessing.

Before you fit aftermarket ambient lighting

These are cautions from Autocar India’s guide to accessories and warranty. It says an aftermarket accessory does not void the car’s entire warranty, but the manufacturer can deny claims for the affected component. It flags ambient kits that need cutting into the dashboard or splicing the wiring loom, and says anything that needs a wire cut or rerouted, rather than plugged in, should be cleared with the manufacturer or an authorised dealer first. It also says some accessories can affect insurance, without naming which ones.

There is a real-world warning too. Mahindra said an XUV700 that caught fire had aftermarket illuminated scuff plates and four ambient lighting modules fitted by tampering with the original wiring, and that the added connections caused a thermal incident, per Rushlane. That is Mahindra’s claim and not a court finding, and we found no Tata-specific warranty statement. It does show why a poor installation is a risk, so use a trained fitter and ask what is connected to what.

We found no rule in the Motor Vehicles Act or the Central Motor Vehicles Rules that deals specifically with interior ambient lighting. We cannot call any kit “safe”, “legal” or “warranty-safe”, and neither does our video.

Is it worth it?

If your Safari already has factory ambient lighting, such as on the 2023 and 2026 Dark editions, an aftermarket kit may add little and could add risk. If it does not, the question is the installation, not the lights: ask whether the kit plugs into an existing connection or needs splicing, and get that in writing from the dealer if you care about the warranty. We cannot rate this particular kit, because its price and brand are not stated in the description.

A note on our video

Our video describes the kit as an upgrade for the Safari Dark Edition. It was published before the 2026 Dark Edition launched, so the car is an earlier edition, and we cannot say which. The video makes no claims about warranty or fitment, and we are not adding any. Where the page above lists car specifications, they are for the 2026 model and not the car in the video. Watch the full video for the owner’s own verdict, and see our videos page and car news for more. We have not tested the kit or the 2026 Safari.

Tata Safari Dark Edition FAQs

Which trim is the Safari Dark Edition?

The 2026 Dark Edition is available only on the top Accomplished Ultra trim. Earlier Dark editions used other trims.

The 2026 Accomplished Ultra Dark and the 2023 Red Dark and Accomplished+ Dark list it, but the original 2022 Dark does not mention it.
