Recently, an auction was held in Dubai called “Most Noble Numbers” by Emirates Auction LLC, where a two-character vehicle license plate was sold for nearly $15 million (approximately Rs 122 crore). The license plate, which reads “Dubai P 7”, was sold for Dh 55 million (nearly $15 million) or about Rs 122 crore. This made it the most expensive vehicle license plate ever sold, and the auction garnered proceedings of nearly Dh 100 million ($27 million).

The bidding for the “Dubai P 7” number plate started at Dh 15 million ($4 million) and quickly rose to $8 million, with the final bid reaching $15 million. The proceeds from the auction will go to the 1 Billion Meals Endowment Campaign, a charitable global food initiative founded by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid, the ruler of Dubai. The auction and the whopping proceeds were confirmed by the auction house in an Instagram post, claiming that this incident has been registered in the Guinness Book of World Records as the title of the most expensive license plate ever sold.

most expensive number plate

Dubai has a history of being home to the most expensive license plates ever sold. In 2008, a UAE-based billionaire named Saeed Abdul Ghafour Khouri purchased a license plate featuring the single-digit number one for nearly $14.3 million, which held the record for the most expensive number plate for quite some time.

It is not clear who purchased the new “Dubai P 7” number plate, and it is also not clear whether it will be used for a new car or an existing car owned by the bid winner. However, the amount spent on winning the bid for this number is much higher than many of the most expensive cars currently on sale in the world. Only a few limited-run cars, such as Rolls-R Boat Tail, Bugatti La Voiture Noire, and Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta, are more expensive than this exclusive two-character number plate.
